The ladies of JLMC are proud that our work goes to support two amazing causes. Our Signature Project through 2019 is the Decatur Morgan Hospital’s Mammography Center. Funds raised by JLMC will go towards the Center’s renovation and breast cancer education. JLMC has a long standing partnership with PACT (Parents and Children Together). Through our partnership with PACT, JLMC delivers newborn packets containing helpful care and resource information to the new mothers at the local hospital.
DECATUR MORGAN HOSPITAL MAMMOGRAPHY CENTER
Since 1952, The Junior League of Morgan County has been an integral part of supporting the Decatur Morgan Hospital. The first donation was from Service League to the pediatric area of Decatur General Hospital. In 2014, Junior League elected for the Decatur Morgan Hospital Foundation be the recipient of a signature project. This project is centered on renovating the Mammography Center and developing an Educational Resource Designated Area within the Mammography Center.
The equipment in the center is the most up to date equipment available. The technology, expertise and care from the staff is second to none. Often times the appearance of a facility has a subliminal correlation with a patients’ perception of the quality of services provided. The renovation of the Mammography Center waiting areas, changing area, and other areas of the facility will enhance the overall experience in the Mammography Center.
Statistics show, 1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer in her lifetime. For women in the United States, breast cancer is the second highest death causing cancer. 85% of women diagnosed with breast cancer do not have a family history of breast cancer. Brochures and information on breast cancer and self-breast exams and the importance of early detection will be available to women in our community in the Educational Resource Designated Area.
PARENTS AND CHILDREN TOGETHER (PACT)
Founded in 1978 with tremendous help from The Junior League of Morgan County, Parents and Children Together (PACT) is a premier Family Resource Center that serves over 10,000 individuals each year.
The mission of PACT is to prevent child abuse and neglect in Morgan County by supporting children and their families through parent education, direct services, public awareness, and school based-programs, all of which are free to any community resident.
JLMC furthers this mission by offering annual financial support and providing volunteers to assist with the PACT Newborn Program at Decatur Morgan Hospital. JLMC volunteers are trained to deliver packets to new mothers who have just given birth and provide educational materials to support them.
DONE IN A DAYS
The Junior League of Morgan County is looking forward to making an impact again in our community this year through the volunteer hours and energy provided by our members. All Active JLMC members are required to justify their membership in the League by participating in approximately 30 hours of some form of volunteer service. To appropriately fulfill these hours, JLMC members complete Done In A Days (DIADs) during the course of the JLMC year (August-May).
JLMC had made their presence known throughout the community this past year by participating in all of the fun and hard work of The Decatur Morgan Hospital Power of Pink Walk, Jaycees Riverfest, Hartselle Depot Days, FACES Comfort Bag Assembly, The Community Free Clinic Oyster Shells and Fish Tails, The Decatur Historic Christmas Tour, Hartselle Cotton Pickin' BBQ Contest, The Decatur Morgan Hospital Dragonboat Festival, and the fabulous 3rd Fridays in Downtown Decatur.
We seek volunteer opportunities with other community partners whose event/project compliments the Mission Statement of the Junior League and who share a passion for improving the lives of those in Morgan County.
