Junior League of Morgan County

Mission Statement:


The Junior League of Morgan County is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential for women, and improving communities through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Our purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.


The Junior League of Morgan County (JLMC) seeks to partner with other financially sound not-for-profit organizations whose programs complement the Mission Statement of Junior League and who share a passion for the JLMC’s current focus or impact area. The current focal points are WOMEN AND CHILDREN. The JLMC Signature Project typically runs from one to five years, but a partnership between JLMC and a Signature Project may be arranged for any amount of time designated by the two partner organizations. New Signature Projects are created on an as-needed basis with JLMC and the community. The JLMC Community Research Committee will review all Signature Project Partnership Requests, and final determinations are voted on by the JLMC membership and are based on JLMC's mission, current focus, measurable community impact, membership interest, and available JLMC resources.


JLMC Signature Project requests have historically ranged from approximately $1,000 to $15,000, depending on the need and length of time committed by JLMC to the Signature Project. Funds will be dispersed at end of fundraising year approximately May 2025. The Signature Project will provide volunteer opportunities for JLMC volunteers. The majority of JLMC volunteers are working professionals and prefer evening and weekend hours, although daytime volunteers may also be available. JLMC volunteers seek opportunities that are fulfilling and task-completion-type projects. Ultimately, the goal is to match our volunteers with unique and rewarding opportunities that allow a measurable impact in Morgan County and our current focus area of WOMEN AND CHILDREN.



APPLICATION PROCESS:


JLMC will accept applications that are completed and submitted to JLMC by 5:00 pm on August 1, 2024, and have all the required exhibits and include the signature of the agency's Executive Director or President of the Board of Directors. JLMC provides both volunteers and funding to community partners, but other community partners may receive volunteers only based on the needs of specific programs and the goals of JLMC relative to the program. JLMC will consider funding requests that are directly related to the program for which volunteers are requested but will not fund ongoing operations or staff salaries.


ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA AND GUIDELINES:

  • Signature Projects must fall within the current JLMC focus area of women and children

  • Applying organizations must have a 501(c)(3) status, be schools that have public school status, or religious agencies that benefit the general public

  • Signature Projects must benefit the residents of Morgan County

  • All funds provided by JLMC for the project must remain in Morgan County

  • Selected partners must be willing to execute a Signature Project Contract with JLMC

  • No application will be accepted after August 1, 2024, at 5:00 pm

FUND REQUESTS MAY NOT:

  • Be related to religious, political, or medical research projects

  • Be used for travel budgets

  • Be used for renovations in building not owned or in long-term lease

  • Be granted to individuals

  • Be used for fundraising activities

  • Be used for research

  • Be used for providing transportation

APPLICANTS ACTIONS:

  • Complete the information requests on the Signature Project Partnership Request Application Form

  • Submit the completed application and supporting documentation to JLMC by online form listed at bottom of this page or email at jlmorgancounty@gmail.com or by mail at Junior League of Morgan County, P.O. Box 486, Decatur, AL 35602. 

  • All submissions, documents, and information must be received no later than August 1, 2024 at 5:00 pm.

  • Please include the following documents in your submission:

    • Completed original application

    • Current list of the agency’s Board of Directors

    • List of current partner organizations

    • Letter of IRS Determination of Tax-Exempt Status

    • Audited Financials or Agency's Year-End Balance Sheet, Statement of Activity, and Budget to Actual


JUNIOR LEAGUE OF MORGAN COUNTY ACTIONS:

  • The Community VP  of JLMC will send an acknowledgment receipt of the Signature Project application.

  • Signature Project Partners are recommended to the JLMC membership for final approval after an extensive vetting process by the JLMC Community Research Committee that includes a thorough review of the agency and the program for which volunteers and/or funds are requested.

  • The Community VP  may use a variety of methods to review applicants including, but not limited to, a review of the application and documentation provided, follow-up questions to first review, requests for interviews with Executive Directors and/or Boards of Directors, requests for presentations to both the Community Research Committee and the JLMC General Membership, and requests to visit the agency and observe the program.

  • The Community VP  will recommend proposed partners for a Signature Project to the JLMC General Membership, but the General Membership will vote on the final outcome of the next JLMC Signature Project.

  • The Community VP  will communicate the final outcome of the JLMC's selection process after the General Membership votes in Fall 2024.
